The International Rotary Club of l'Alfàs del Pi was founded on May 24th in 2017 on the initiative of Rotarians Caroline Bjälstam, István I. Székely, Mario González Bonilla and Monica Macasoli.

Caroline, István, Monica and Mario are former members of the Rotary Club Altea.

Caroline was in charge the first year as President Founder.

This initiative of creating an International club came due to the high number of foreign residents that actually live in l'Alfaz del Pi. There are many former Rotarians from for example Norway that live here, that cannot join any local Rotary Club due to language barriers. There are also other people that would be excellent Rotarians but cannot be or do not want to become a member due to the language.

Initially, the club started off with a small group of 20 members from all over the world. Thanks to the effort of all current members, we are continuing to grow. Today we are proud to represent countries like Spain, Sweden, Norway, Italy, Hungary, Germany, Venezuela, Guatemala, The Netherlands, Mexico, The United Kingdom and Cuba among our members.

Most meetings take place in English, but as we are an International Club, we adapt to any situation depending on the participants of each particular meeting. In order to provide successful and productive gatherings, we offer simultaneous translations if necessary, for everyone to be able to follow and participate.

World Polio Day

On the 24th of October, Rotary International celebrates the World Polio Day, where Rotary members around the world work actively in order to eradicate polio once and for all.

“In 2019 More than 4,000 clubs in 136 countries organized more than 5,600 events to raise awareness and funds for polio eradication. Brazil, the United States, Nigeria, Italy, and the Philippines held the most events, respectively. This year, club events included art celebrations, athletic challenges, dance festivals, and educational initiatives”

Our club was created in 2017 and has since then arranged projects in order to raise awareness or money for the Polio Foundation. In October of 2017 we decided to interview Maj-Lis Bruse who has Polio. The idea of this interview was to create awareness how it is to live with this horrible disease and what Rotary does in order to prevent it . The articles were published in Norwegian, Russian and Dutch. The Town hall of Alfaz del Pi, also made a press release regarding this:

The same year our club also organized a very beautiful benefit concert where all income went to our own Polio Foundation. The artist was the extraordinary young pianist from Rusia, Filipp Moskalenko who offered the audience a heartwarming and impressive performance.
